How it Started
The NC Music Love Army was founded by Caitlin Cary and Jon Lindsay to provide direct, multifaceted artistic support to the Forward Together Moral Monday Movement led by the NC NAACP and Reverend William Barber III. The initial scope of the project was to supply an original soundtrack of protest music by and for the people of North Carolina, including original recordings and performances.
The obvious need for the project arose when a Republican supermajority seized power in NC.
The obvious need for the project arose when a Republican supermajority seized power in NC. The virtually unchecked body implemented a host of immoral, regressive, anti-female, anti-labor, anti-environment policies at a rapid pace. In order to raise awareness, funds, and support on a national level for the fight in NC, the NC Music Love Army was formed.
The debut LP, “We Are Not For Sale: Songs of Protest” (released on Redeye through the Love Army Records label) received considerable attention both in NC and nationally, with coverage for the group and recordings in Salon, The Washington Post, Facing South, Rolling Stone, No Depression, MSNBC, and many other outlets.
