This Land Is Your Land

Video & Single Released October 2024

Sometimes called “America’s other national anthem” Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land” was written in 1938 in reaction to the bombastic and jingoistic patriotic melodies popular at the time. It stands as a testament to the grandeur, promise, and potential of our nation, while also acknowledging the work still to be done to achieve the ideals we claim to value as Americans.

Featured in this video and live performance are Dawn Landes, Creighton Irons, Skylar Gudasz, Ittai Korman, Brett Harris, MC Taylor, James Davy, Jasme Kelly, Austin McCall, Jess Klein, Chris Boerner, Caitlin Cary, Charly Lowry, Laurelyn Dossett, Django Haskins, Jones Bell, and Matt Douglas. Captured and recorded on stage at the Cat’s Cradle 8-25-24.

As is typical of a folk song, “This Land Is Your Land” is often sung with different words and verses at different times – as was the case even with recordings and performances by Guthrie himself. Our version, recorded live at the Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro NC on Aug 25, 2024 features a new verse composed by Charly Lowry and Dawn Landes recognizing the indigenous habitation in the region, “before you and me.”

We are Not for Sale

Songs of Protest from the NC Music Love Army (2013)

We Are Not For Sale was recorded and released in 2013. The five original protest songs on the “A” side were recorded in one day by a cast of around 25 NC-based musicians at Pershing Hill Studios in Raleigh. The “B” side (fondly referred to as the “Guerrilla Side”) comprises five individually-submitted tracks by some of the state’s finest songwriters.

The album’s ten songs together form a unified statement: the artists of North Carolina attest that the people of our state deserve a government that holds all its people in equal esteem, that guards their health, their education, their legal rights and their ability to thrive, and that values justice over profit in every instance. We send our songs out in the hope of inspiring all who work for peace, fairness and moral prosperity in our state and beyond.
