A more equitable, just and sustainable North Carolina

Break the super-majority

The NC Music Love Army (NCMLA) is a volunteer-based community of independent creative, musicians, promoters, venue owners, and supporters working to achieve a more equitable, just and sustainable North Carolina.

“Love is the only medicine I believe in.”

– Woody Guthrie

Sometimes called “America’s other national anthem” Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land” was written in 1938 in reaction to the bombastic and jingoistic patriotic melodies popular at the time. It stands as a testament to the grandeur, promise, and potential of our nation, while also acknowledging the work still to be done to achieve the ideals we claim to value as Americans.

As is typical of a folk song, “This Land Is Your Land” is often sung with different words and verses at different times – as was the case even with recordings and performances by Guthrie himself. Our version, composed by Charly Lowry and Dawn Landes and recorded live at the Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro NC on Aug 25, 2024, features a new verse composed by Lowry recognizing the indigenous habitation in the region, “before you and me.”
